For this week, we have the Valley card. As it turns out, I have scheduled a spa day with girlfriends today, one of whom just lost her husband. So we are planning a day of massage, wine, and lunch in at a beautiful resort here in Temecula. Wow … so when I drew this card, all my guilt about spending so much time relaxing on a “work” day drifted away!
So how many of us are guilty of not doing enough self-comforting. Do we even know what we would DO if given the time/assets. Even for myself today, I am doing this “for my friend” of course, not for ME! The economy is adding extra stress to many of us these days, so as the stress level goes up, up goes the need for self-comfort.
Leading edge medical scientists are documenting the powerful effect stress has on our overall health … manifesting in so many different ways. We are so used to charging forward, hoping that no disease will manifest, then going to the doctor for a shot or pill or surgery to “fix” it when it does. What if, just what if, we took care of relieving our stress BEFORE it became disease (dis-ease)? It wouldn’t be as dramatic and we might have to explain to our partners that we weren’t being selfish, but were being smart and practical instead!
It doesn’t have to be an expensive spa day. It can be as simple as taking a nice bath or a short quite walk in nature to reground yourself. What is important is to understand how valuable these little moments of self-comfort are. When life was more simple, they weren’t so neccessary. Now, they are essential.
